Libya’s Anti-Illegal Migration Agency (East Tripoli branch) has rescued 13 abducted Bangladeshi migrants from a secret hideout in the capital, Tripoli.

A Syrian national was arrested during the raid for holding the migrants hostage and demanding ransom from their families.

According to a report by the Libya Observer citing official statements from the agency's Facebook page, the Investigation and Arrest Unit launched an inquiry after receiving intelligence regarding an international criminal gang targeting newly arrived migrants for extortion.

Upon verifying the information, security forces tracked the location of the hostages and identified the key suspect.

Following approval from the Public Prosecution, agency personnel raided the hideout, rescued all 13 Bangladeshi nationals, and apprehended the suspect.

During preliminary interrogation, the Syrian national confessed to his involvement in the abduction and extortion ring. His statement was formally recorded, and a local court subsequently ordered him held in custody pending judicial investigation.
