Young and emerging combat fighters from across Bangladesh battled it out in an action-packed amateur martial arts tournament, as Crystal Insurance PLC Presents Julkan Beatdown 02 was held at Bashundhara Sports City in the capital on Friday.

The day-long competition took place on August 7 at the Julkan Indoor Arena, the specialised combat sports venue of Bashundhara Sports City. Amateur fighters from different parts of the country competed in mixed martial arts (MMA), boxing and kickboxing, showcasing their skills and gaining valuable competitive experience.

The tournament featured more than 20 bouts across the three disciplines, with each fight consisting of three three-minute rounds. The fighters' speed, technique, tactical skills and determination to win kept spectators engaged throughout the event.

One of the major attractions of the tournament was the ‘Super 4 Amateur Championship’, where the winners of the semifinals faced each other in the final on the same day. The winners of the championship bouts were awarded the much-anticipated Julkan Beatdown Championship belts.

A total of eight belt finals were held in different categories. Winners of the individual bouts also received medals. The women's kickboxing contests in the 50kg and 65kg weight categories drew particular attention from spectators.

The tournament was organised with the aim of introducing Bangladeshi amateur fighters to international-standard competition, improving their physical and tactical abilities and creating a pathway for them to progress to the professional level.

Crystal Insurance PLC was the title sponsor of the tournament, while United Medical College Hospital, an institution of United Healthcare, served as the official healthcare partner. A medical team remained stationed ringside throughout the competition to ensure the safety and medical support of the participating fighters.

Official MC Wahida's energetic presentation added to the atmosphere of the event, helping create an international-style sporting environment at the venue.

Julkan Indoor Arena at Bashundhara Sports City is a specialised combat sports facility equipped with a professional boxing ring, a full-size MMA cage or octagon, grappling and wrestling mats, and modern fitness equipment.

Speaking about the future of Julkan Beatdown, Bashundhara Sports City's Head of Operations Masudur Rahman Manna said the initiative was designed to develop fighters from the amateur level.

“If we want professional-level fighters, we have to focus on amateur fighters. Julkan Beatdown emerged from that vision. InshaAllah, through this Beatdown, we will be able to develop professional fighters who will represent Bangladesh and the red-and-green flag on the international stage.”

The organisers expressed hope that regular events such as Julkan Beatdown would help expand Bangladesh's amateur combat sports scene and create a stronger pipeline of skilled fighters capable of competing internationally.
