Dhk-Ashulia elevated expressway service lanes opening soon

Bridges Division Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf has directed officials concerned to complete the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway project within the deadline while maintaining construction quality.
He gave the instruction after a coordination meeting at Baipail on Friday (August 7), while speaking to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
He said, "Regular coordination among all stakeholders is necessary to resolve challenges quickly and finish the project on time. Construction of the 3.71-kilometer service lane section is in its final stage. Two service lanes are expected to open for traffic within this month."
Directing the deployment of additional manpower to reduce public suffering during construction, he emphasized that ensuring effective traffic management and adequate safety measures at construction sites is crucial.
According to project details, the expressway is being built from Dhaur intersection to Ashulia Bazar while preserving the natural flow of the Turag River.
By June this year, the overall progress of the project reached 71.50 per cent, while physical progress stood at 65 per cent.
Officials concerned said construction work is progressing rapidly, and preparations are underway to open selected sections of the expressway within this month.
Construction of the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway, the country's second elevated expressway, began on November 12, 2022.
The project aims to ease traffic congestion in the capital and ensure fast road connectivity between Dhaka and the northern and northwestern regions.
While Bangladesh's first Dhaka Elevated Expressway was implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the Dhaka-Ashulia project is financed through foreign loans.
China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC) is constructing the project, funded by the Export-Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank).
According to project data, the main structure of the expressway will span 24 kilometers. It will feature 14 ramps with a total length of 10.83 kilometers.
Additionally, the project includes constructing a 1.95-kilometer flyover in Nabinagar and a 2.72-kilometer bridge along the Ashulia-Dhaur embankment road. The scheme also encompasses 14.28 kilometers of road construction and 18 kilometers of drainage ducts.
Once completed, the expressway will connect directly with the Asian Highway Network, expanding cross-border road connectivity.
It will also establish seamless links with major highways, including Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet, Dhaka-Mymensingh, Dhaka-Jamalpur, Dhaka-Manikganj-Tetulia, and Dhaka-Mawa-Barishal routes.
Vehicles using the elevated expressway will have to pay tolls set by the authorities.
