TCB dealers demand renewal of licences

TCB dealers on Sunday staged a protest at the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) headquarters in Karwan Bazar, demanding renewal of their licences and restoration of their dealerships.
Dealers from different parts of the country gathered under the banner of the ‘Save TCB Dealers Movement’ and raised several demands, including renewal of licences that were not renewed in 2025 and 2026.
Aminul Islam, a dealer from Pabna, said they had been running TCB dealerships for years but their licences were cancelled without renewal in 2025 and 2026.
“We have been operating TCB dealerships for around 20 years. Our licences were suddenly cancelled without any reason or clear instructions. We want them renewed,” he said.
Representing the TCB dealers, Md Billal Hossain said old dealers whose licences were due for renewal in 2025 and 2026 should be given the opportunity to continue their businesses and livelihoods.
“If there are allegations of corruption or irregularities against any dealer, they can be investigated and excluded. But those who have been operating transparently and have no allegations against them should retain their dealerships,” he said.
The dealers also demanded the removal of TCB Director Hasnat and the TCB chairman, questioning how the director has continued in his position after August 5, 2024.
“We are not against the government. We want to cooperate as part of the government and run TCB’s business transparently while protecting the government’s reputation,” Billal said.
The dealers warned of tougher programmes if their dealerships are not renewed immediately.
