6 more die, 1,063 infected with measles symptoms in 24hrs

Six children died with measles symptoms and 1,063 others were affected by measles or measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS said in its latest measles update issued on Sunday that none of the six deaths was confirmed to have been caused by measles.

Since March 15, a total of 775 children have died with measles symptoms, while 98 others have died after being infected with measles. The combined death toll from measles and measles-like symptoms stands at 873.

Of the 1,063 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, 75 were confirmed measles cases and 988 had measles-like symptoms. During the period, 938 children were admitted to hospitals and 942 were discharged.

Since March 15, the country has recorded 136,320 suspected measles cases and 17,115 confirmed cases. A total of 118,382 patients have been hospitalised, of whom 114,142 have been discharged.
