Meet on vessel census held in Laxmipur

LAXMIPUR, Aug 9: The Department of Shipping and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) jointly organised a vessel census notification meeting with vessel-related stakeholders in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Sunday. 

The government has taken the initiative to conduct a vessel census for the first time in the country with the aim of developing a comprehensive database of engine-powered vessels plying in the country’s sea-going, coastal and inland waters.

The organisers said that the Department of Shipping and BBS will jointly conduct the census from August 20 to August 29.

Deputy Commissioner SM Mehedi Hasan chaired the meeting. It was attended by District Superintendent of Police Md Abu Tarek, Additional District Magistrate Md Mejba ul Alam Bhuiyan and Deputy Director of the District BBS Md Kamal Hossain and others.
