Tarique Rahman joins BNP organisational meeting in Chattogram

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday night joined a BNP organisational meeting at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Chattogram, as thousands of party activists gathered along roads leading to the venue amid tight security.
His motorcade entered the hotel at around 8:10pm, where Chattogram BNP leaders welcomed him with flowers.
Thousands of party activists began gathering from around 4pm on three major roads leading to the hotel. Police blocked vehicular movement on the roads from Lalkhan Bazar, Kazir Dewri and CRB using road dividers, causing significant restrictions around the area.
A heavy security cordon was established around the hotel, with police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Special Security Force (SSF) deployed for the prime minister’s visit, Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah said.
The city took on a festive appearance throughout the day ahead of the prime minister’s arrival. Major roads and flyovers were freshly painted, while arches, banners and festoons welcoming Tarique Rahman were installed at various points.
Tarique Rahman left Tejgaon Airport in Dhaka at around 9:15am for Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar. After inspecting several development projects, including the Matarbari deep-sea port, he visited flood-hit areas of Banshkhali, Fatikchhari and Hathazari in Chattogram.
During the visits, he handed over new homes to people affected by the recent floods as part of rehabilitation efforts.
After completing his daylong programme, the prime minister arrived in Chattogram city and attended the BNP’s organisational meeting with party leaders at Radisson Blu.
According to Chattogram Metropolitan BNP leaders, all 53 members of the metropolitan BNP convening committee attended the meeting, along with the conveners, senior joint conveners and member secretaries of the party’s 41 ward committees.
The meeting was also attended by the “Super Five” leaders of the Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Mohila Dal, as well as long-serving grassroots activists. Party leaders said those who currently hold no formal party positions were also invited, with around 350 such activists from the metropolitan area attending.
Another 250 leaders and activists from BNP’s Chattogram North and South district units also took part in the meeting.
