Two to die for raping housewife in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Aug 12: Jamalpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim on Monday afternoon sentenced two men to death and also fined each Tk 1 lakh for raping a housewife in Dewanganj Upazila of the district.

The convicts are Ashkar Ali and Zahidul Islam of Nimaimari Village in the upazila.

According to the court, the two men entered the house of the housewife in Nimaimari area on the night of March 31, 2022 and raped her. Later, the victim’s son filed a case with the police station. After investigation, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a charge sheet to the court. 

The court examined six witnesses, including a magistrate and a doctor. After finding the charges proved, the court handed down the death penalty to both accused.

PP Advocate Fazlul Haque said the fine imposed by the court would be given to the victim’s family as compensation. Both convicts were present in the court when the verdict was declared.
