Six fishermen rescued after trawler sinks in Meghna

A fishing trawler carrying six fishermen sank after being caught in a strong current in the Meghna River off Bhola early Thursday.

The incident occurred near Rastar Char area of Purba Dhalchar in Dhalchar Union under South Aicha Police Station of Char Fasson upazila.

The trawler was reportedly from Patuakhali, while the fishermen are residents of Dashmina upazila.

Local fishermen, led by Hasan Majhi, rescued all six after they were seen floating in the river and calling for help. However, the sunken trawler and fishing nets could not be located.

South Aicha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Ahsan Kabir confirmed the incident, saying the fishermen were brought to safety and later left. Their identities could not be confirmed as a result.
