State minister Bari calls for ending loose edible oil sales

JOYPURHAT, Aug 14:  State Minister for Public Administration and Food Abdul Bari has said the sale of loose edible oil must be stopped to ensure food safety, warning that consuming such oil poses serious health risks.
He made the remarks at a district advocacy meeting on the role of local stakeholders in stopping the sale of loose edible oil at the conference room of the Joypurhat District Administration on Friday morning.
The Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) organised the meeting with sponsorship from the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh, while the district administration provided overall support.
Deputy Commissioner Al Mamun Mia, Zilla Parishad Administrator and District BNP Senior Joint Convener Masud Rana Pradhan, Superintendent of Police Shahnaz Begum, National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute Founding Chairman Mushtaq Hasan Muhd Iftikhar, its Pathology and Research Department Professor Dr Sohel Reza Chowdhury, District Food Safety Officer Sumaiya Afrin Jinia, District BNP Convener Golzar Hossain, Joint Convener Abdul Wahab and Joypurhat Press Club President Abu Bakar Siddique, among others, spoke at the meeting.
Speakers urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure that only packaged edible oil is sold in the market to protect public health.
Senior officials of the district and police administrations, BFSA representatives and representatives of various local business organisations attended the meeting.
