None of family members present, learned about ‘30 seconds’ before

Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez have sparked fresh speculation over their highly private wedding after reports claimed that none of Ronaldo’s close family members attended the ceremony-and some may have learned about it only moments before it took place.


According to Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias, the marriage was legally registered and the ceremony was kept extremely private. Only the couple’s five children and four witnesses who signed the marriage certificate were reportedly present.

The biggest talking point, however, has been the absence of Ronaldo’s family.

Speaking on Portuguese television channel TVI’s programme Dois às 10, popular presenter Cristina Ferreira claimed that Ronaldo’s mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his siblings knew little or nothing about the wedding.

“The family was not there. They shouldn’t even have been informed. Or, if they knew, perhaps they knew 30 seconds beforehand,” Ferreira reportedly said.

Her comments have triggered speculation across European media about whether there is any tension between Rodríguez and Ronaldo’s family.

Neither Dolores nor Ronaldo’s three siblings attended the ceremony. The absence has also prompted questions among fans about why such close family members were apparently left out of the intimate event.

There has been no public criticism of Ronaldo or Rodríguez from the family, however. In fact, Dolores and Ronaldo’s sister Kátia Aveiro reacted to the couple’s wedding announcement on social media with affectionate emojis-something many have interpreted as a sign of family support.
