Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons has urged his players to stay humble and focused after their historic nine-wicket victory over Australia in the first Test in Darwin, stressing that the team travelled to Australia with the goal of winning the two-match series, not just one Test.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) released a video of the team’s dressing-room celebrations following the victory. While congratulating the players, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto called on the team to remain grounded despite the historic achievement.

Simmons also praised the players for their hard work and disciplined performance throughout the match. “The hard work you have put in, you deserve this success. I am proud of you. You have done a great job. Congratulations on being part of this historic moment,” he said, while giving special praise to the bowling group.

The coach highlighted the way the players celebrated each other’s individual successes during the match. He praised Tamim for his contribution alongside Hasan in the first innings and Shanto for controlling the innings. He also credited Mehidy Hasan Miraz for his role in the second innings.

Simmons further praised Mominul Haque for remaining composed after Bangladesh lost an early wicket and helping the team regain control. He said one of the most pleasing aspects of the match was seeing the players genuinely celebrate each other’s achievements, whether a teammate was approaching a century or had taken five wickets.

However, Simmons warned the players against becoming carried away by the victory. “Our emotions will be very high today, but we cannot let them get too high because we still have another match to win the series. We have been successful in the first step of our goal,” he said.

Simmons made it clear that Bangladesh’s ambitions extend beyond the historic Test victory. “We did not come here for just one Test match; we came here for two Tests. One match is now over, and we have another one ahead of us,” he said.
