The Highway Police on Monday (October 26) issued a public advisory requesting commuters to use alternative routes and plan for extra travel time to avoid severe traffic congestion expected due to emergency expansion joint repair work on the Demra Bridge.
The maintenance work will begin at 6:00 AM on Tuesday (October 27) and continue until 12:00 midnight on Wednesday (October 28). The project is being executed by the Narayanganj Road and Highways Department (RHD).
Located at the first kilometer of the Tarabo-Demra Road (R-201) along the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, the bridge repair is likely to cause significant traffic slowdowns along the route and in surrounding areas, confirmed Executive Engineer of Narayanganj RHD, Abdur Rahim.
Confirming the development on Monday afternoon, Tariq Latif, Staff Officer to the Additional IGP of Highway Police, urged media outlets and relevant authorities to disseminate the traffic advisory promptly to help commuters minimize travel disruptions during the two-day repair period.
