Renowned Indian composer A.R. Rahman is bringing a special musical tribute to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan set to join the project.
Rahman announced the project on social media, revealing that Shah Rukh Khan had agreed to appear in the music video dedicated to Asha Bhosle. He also thanked the actor for joining the tribute to the late singer.
The project, however, was not conceived after Bhosle’s death. Rahman said it began while the legendary singer was still alive, with the intention of completing the work and presenting it to her personally. That plan could not be fulfilled following her death on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92.
The tribute will feature several other prominent Indian musicians, while previously recorded vocals by Bhosle will also be incorporated. The result will combine her voice with newly recorded material, preserving her presence in the special musical project.
A teaser for the tribute was released on World Music Day on June 21. It includes behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions and shows Bhosle participating in the project while she was alive. Rahman described the tribute as a project that began as a dream when Bhosle was still with them.
The full song and music video have yet to be released, and no official release date has been announced.
Bhosle died in Mumbai at the age of 92 after being admitted to Breach Candy Hospital with exhaustion and a chest infection. Her death was confirmed by her son and her doctor. She was cremated with full state honours at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on April 13.
