Allegations have been raised against three policemen over an alleged transfer and promotion business surrounding the Cox’s Bazar Police Superintendent (SP).

The three policemen have allegedly formed a network across the district and influence the transfer and posting of police personnel. Some police members have also alleged that money is demanded in exchange for postings at preferred police stations and outposts.

The group is led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Anwar Hossain of the Reserve Office. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Adam Ali of the District Detective Branch (DB) provides information about police personnel working in different areas. ASI Md Zakaria and Constable Saiful Islam are also involved with the network.

There are also complaints against Constable Borhan, who works as the SP’s bodyguard. Some police officers, including officers-in-charge of police stations, are afraid of him.

These allegations came from several police members who claimed to have been affected by the alleged activities.

According to sources, Cox’s Bazar SP A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman joined his post on November 29, 2025. Soon after joining, SI Md Anwar Hossain, who had worked with him in Habiganj, was brought to Cox’s Bazar and posted there.

Sources said Anwar had also held an additional responsibility when Sajedur Rahman was SP of Habiganj. After joining Cox’s Bazar, he was given responsibility for another post related to police transfers and promotions.

According to the allegations, Anwar began influencing transfers and postings in the name of the SP. People known to him from different districts and divisions were brought to Cox’s Bazar and posted at police stations and outposts according to their preferences.

Sources alleged that large amounts of money were collected depending on the category of the police station or outpost. They also claimed that around two dozen police personnel were transferred from Cox’s Bazar to remote and hilly areas after failing to meet the alleged demands.

Some police members working at Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Ramu, Ukhia and Teknaf police stations were reportedly transferred. Sources said many of them were considered effective in controlling criminals and maintaining law and order.

A source alleged that an inspector from Cox’s Bazar was transferred to another district, where the concerned SP posted him at a police outpost. After the Cox’s Bazar SP came to know about the posting, the inspector was removed from the outpost within a day following a complaint of false information, the source claimed.

There are also allegations against ASI Adam Ali. Sources said he often remained away from his workplace and moved around different parts of the district without informing his seniors. He allegedly collected information about police personnel working at different police stations and outposts and passed it to senior officials.

Some police members have also alleged that Adam Ali has been involved in activities related to drugs.

Recently, several police constables working at different police stations, were transferred. Some affected personnel alleged that they were transferred to make room for people preferred by the alleged network.

They also claimed that Police Constable Mehedi of Ramu Police Station has remained in his post for more than two years because he is allegedly favoured by the network.

Several police members, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the alleged “transfer rate” varies depending on the category of the police station or outpost.

Meanwhile, BNP leaders in Habiganj have alleged that SP A.N.M. Sajedur Rahman harassed BNP supporters by filing false cases during his tenure there.

Sources also said his wife Mushfika Iffat had worked at the office of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina for 17 years. She is currently serving as a deputy secretary and is working in the Training Branch and the Social Science Research Council as an additional responsibility.
