The National Citizen Party (NCP) has reshuffled its mayoral line-up for the upcoming elections to Dhaka North and South City Corporations, replacing its earlier nominees and putting two of its senior leaders in the race for the capital's coveted mayoral posts.
Under the revised arrangement, NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan will contest for mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), while the party's Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari will vie for the mayoralty of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Party sources said the revised candidate list is likely to be formally announced at a press conference within the next two to three days.
The change has already been reflected in the electoral rolls. Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has shifted his voting area from Dhaka South to Ward No. 37 in Aftabnagar under Dhaka North City Corporation. Nasiruddin Patwari, meanwhile, has moved from Uttara in Dhaka North to Ward No. 21 in Dhaka South. Both leaders reportedly changed their voting areas by submitting the prescribed Form-13 to the Election Commission.
NCP Joint Conveners Sarwar Tushar and Monira Sharmin confirmed the revised mayoral arrangement, saying the party’s top leadership had already reached a decision on the matter.
