In the murder case of farmer Nayeb Ali in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah, accused son has been sentenced to death and fined Tk 50,000, while his father has been sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk 20,000.
Judge and Special Sessions Judge Mohammad Masud Ali of the Jhenaidah District and Sessions Court delivered the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
The convicted men are Alamin Patowari, son of Yunus Patowari, and Yunus Patowari, son of the late Osman Ali Patowari, both from Maliat village in Kaliganj.
According to Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Akidul Islam, “Nayeb Ali was beaten to death with bamboo behind the house of Towaz Uddin in Maliat village on May 28, 2025. A murder case was filed at Kaliganj Police Station that same day, naming the son, father and mother as accused.”
After completing its investigation, police cleared the mother, Rashida Begum, of the charges. The investigating officer submitted the charge sheet to the court on August 18, 2025.
The trial was completed in just seven working days, and the verdict was announced today. Nayeb Ali’s sons and daughters expressed satisfaction with the verdict.
