College admission bids may open Sept 2

Applications for admission to Class XI at colleges and madrasas could begin online on Sept 2 under a proposed schedule submitted to the education ministry.

The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has proposed accepting first-phase applications from Sept 2-10, its Chairman Syed Aktaruzzaman told bdnews24.com on Thursday.

Candidates whose Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent results change after re-scrutiny would get a second chance to apply on Sept 12-13.

Selected students would complete admission on Sept 20-22, with classes proposed to begin on Sept 23.

The committee had initially proposed starting applications on Sept 15 and classes on Nov 12.

The ministry advised the education boards to bring forward the process to save time, following which the revised schedule was submitted for approval.

The dates will be finalised after the ministry approves the proposed admission policy.

The ministry will also decide how many application rounds will be held, according to Aktaruzzaman.

Applications are usually accepted in three phases, with a fourth phase sometimes opened when seats remain vacant. The number of phases could be reduced this year to save students time, he said.

Admission will continue to be based on SSC and equivalent results, with students applying online and being selected according to their preference order and examination scores.�" bdnews
