The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Mohammad Amirul Haque congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on being elected as the 23rd President with the support of an absolute majority of the members of the National Parliament.
In a congratulatory letter sent on Friday, the CCCI President said the president’s guidance and cooperation would be important in promoting investment, improving the business climate and strengthening the private sector’s role in Bangladesh’s economic growth.
Amirul Haque said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s long political experience, integrity and public engagement could contribute to strengthening the country’s institutions and supporting economic development.
Referring to the president’s career, the CCCI president said his journey from student politics and teaching to national politics, serving as mayor of Thakurgaon municipality, lawmaker, state minister and minister before assuming the country’s highest constitutional office reflected his long public service.
He said the president’s experience, wisdom and vision could help strengthen constitutional and democratic institutions while contributing to stability and progress.
Amirul Haque said the private sector and investment would play a critical role in achieving the government’s target of transforming Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.
He called for measures to create a business-friendly environment, simplify business procedures, reduce operating costs, increase investor confidence and encourage both domestic and foreign investment.
The CCCI president also stressed the importance of greater coordination between government institutions and private-sector stakeholders to accelerate industrialisation and create employment opportunities.
Highlighting Chattogram’s role as Bangladesh’s economic gateway, he said the city’s commercial and industrial activities require necessary policy support and incentives to make a stronger contribution to national economic growth.
He expressed hope that the newly elected president would provide practical guidance and support to ensure a greater contribution from the private sector to Bangladesh’s economy.
