North American BNP to hold two-week programme in New York to welcome PM Tarique Rahman

The BNP and its affiliated organizations in North America have announced a two-week programme in September surrounding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The programme will begin ahead of the prime minister’s arrival on September 21 and will continue throughout his stay in New York, according to decisions taken at a joint virtual meeting of central and local leaders of the BNP and its affiliated organizations on Saturday afternoon local time.

The meeting discussed detailed plans for the prime minister’s visit and assigned responsibilities among various leaders.

The meeting was chaired by BNP International Affairs Secretary and North America Coordinator Anwar Hossain. BNP National Executive Committee members Abdul Latif Samrat, Zillur Rahman Zillu, Gias Ahmed and Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan Milton also spoke at the meeting.

Among others, New York State BNP President Maulana Oli Ullah Atikur Rahman, New York Metropolitan North BNP President Ahab Chowdhury, New York Metropolitan South BNP President Habibur Rahman Selim Reza, New York State BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman Said and New York Metropolitan South BNP General Secretary Badiul Alam addressed the meeting.

Leaders of the BNP’s affiliated organizations also took part in the discussion, including Jubo Dal Central Vice-President Abu Sayeed Ahmed, Swechchhasebak Dal Central International Affairs Secretary Maksud Chowdhury, Central Joint International Affairs Secretary Saifur Khan Harun, Khorhed Alam, former Jubo Dal president Zakir H. Chowdhury, JASAS convener Engineer Mohammad Sayem, member secretary Mohammad Jahangir Sarowardy and Muktijoddha Dal convener Babar Uddin.

The meeting decided that BNP leaders and activists and those of its affiliated organizations would remain active through various programmes for the entire duration of the prime minister’s stay in New York.

As part of the programme, the organizations will hold a large peace rally in front of the United Nations headquarters on September 24.

To ensure a large turnout at the rally, BNP and its affiliated organizations will conduct outreach campaigns across New York’s five boroughs. Responsibilities for mobilizing people in different areas have already been distributed among the leaders, according to the meeting.

Party sources said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to arrive in New York on September 21 to attend the UN General Assembly. He is expected to address the General Assembly on September 24 and speak at a civic reception on September 25.

Ahead of the visit, several meetings have already been held with former leaders of US BNP, senior leaders of various North American organizations and central-level leaders of affiliated organizations.

According to those involved, a total of 11 joint meetings were held between July 23 and August 21 to discuss preparations for the prime minister’s visit, reception arrangements, the peace rally, public outreach and organizational activities.

North American BNP sources said a final programme for the prime minister’s New York visit will be announced on August 30, 2026, in the presence of leaders and activists from different levels of the organization across North America.

Party leaders said extensive preparations are currently underway among BNP leaders and activists in North America ahead of the prime minister’s visit.
