The Department of Prisons has taken measures to strengthen security, maintain discipline and ensure accountability across prisons nationwide under a seven-point directive.

The measures include strict control over post-lockup activities, round-the-clock CCTV surveillance, action against unauthorised absence, accountability of supervisory officers, staff retraining, special security arrangements during bad weather and surprise inspections.

Additional Inspector General of Prisons Colonel Mesbahul Alam Selim said daily monitoring was underway at all prisons to ensure compliance.

He said at least 90 per cent of the directives had already been implemented, with visible results expected within three to four months.

The department has also instructed prison officials to conduct regular supervision and take departmental action against staff found negligent or absent from duty without permission.
