NOAKHALI, Aug 24: Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) has introduced two eco-friendly electric cars to facilitate internal transportation for teachers, students, officers and employees on the campus.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Golam Rabbani inaugurated the e-cars at a programme in front of the university’s administrative building on Monday.
Speaking at the event, the vice-chancellor said the introduction of e-cars was a timely and environmentally friendly initiative to make internal transportation easier for the university community.
“The e-cars will operate on a circular route throughout the campus, starting from the campus roundabout,” he said.
The service would make transportation easier and safer while helping reduce carbon emissions and environmental pollution on the campus, he added.
Prof Rabbani said the university would continue taking such initiatives to develop NSTU into an environment-friendly and student-friendly campus.
The e-cars will operate from 8am to 8pm every day to transport teachers, students, officers and employees within the university premises.
The vehicles are designed to produce zero direct carbon emissions and run on electric charging. They can also be operated using solar power in the future, according to the university.
NSTU Transport Pool Administrator Dr Md Mofizur Rahman, teachers, students, officers, employees and journalists were present at the inauguration.
