3 BSF men enter Bangladesh, flee leaving weapons: BGB

Three members of India's Border Security Force (BSF) illegally entered Bangladeshi territory and fled leaving behind weapons and a walkie-talkie following an altercation with local residents over cattle grazing along the Lalmonirhat border.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) subsequently recovered two shotguns and one walkie-talkie set left behind by the BSF personnel. Following the incident, the BSF expressed regret during a flag meeting.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (August 25) afternoon in the border area under the jurisdiction of the Banchouki Border Outpost (BOP) of the Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB).

According to BGB sources, at around 2:20 PM on Tuesday, an altercation broke out between local Bangladeshi residents and three members of the Paglimari camp under India's 78 BSF Battalion near border pillar 907/2-S along the unfenced zero line over cattle grazing. At one stage, the three BSF members crossed into Bangladeshi territory without informing the BGB.

When local residents immediately reported the matter to the BGB, more people gathered at the scene. As the situation escalated, the three BSF members quickly fled back into Indian territory, leaving behind two shotguns and a walkie-talkie set. A BGB patrol team later recovered the weapons and communication equipment from the spot.

Following the incident, the Commanding Officer of the Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB) sought an explanation from the Commandant of the 78 BSF Battalion and called for a flag meeting.

Consequently, a battalion commander-level flag meeting was held near border pillar 907/4-S from 6:00 PM to 6:50 PM on Tuesday. During the meeting, the BGB strongly raised the issue of BSF members illegally entering Bangladeshi territory and engaging in an altercation with local citizens.

In response, the BSF Commandant expressed regret over the incident and gave assurances that such occurrences would not happen in the future. He also assured that action would be taken against the BSF personnel involved according to their departmental rules.

The recovered shotguns and walkie-talkie set were subsequently handed over to the BSF authorities following official procedure.
