Alan Donald open to Bangladesh return as pace bowling coach

South African pace-bowling great Alan Donald is open to returning to Bangladesh as the national team’s pace bowling coach if an opportunity arises.

However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not yet made any formal contact with him.

Donald previously served as Bangladesh’s pace bowling coach, taking charge in March 2022 and quickly building a strong relationship with the team’s fast bowlers. He was credited with contributing to the development of pacers including Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam.

Donald left the role in 2023 but maintained contact with Bangladesh’s fast bowlers. He also congratulated the players following their recent Test success against Australia.

Bangladesh’s pace bowling coach Sean Tait stepped down in June. Former Bangladesh cricketer Talha Jubair has since served as interim coach during the series against Zimbabwe and Australia. The BCB may extend Talha’s contract until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Donald’s name has now emerged as a potential candidate for the position. According to a source, he is willing to return to Bangladesh if the BCB shows interest.

For now, therefore, any move to bring Donald back appears to depend on the BCB making contact with him.

His previous experience with Bangladesh and his continued relationship with the country’s pace bowlers could make him a strong candidate for the role.
