Experienced Pakistani left-handed opener Fakhar Zaman equalled legendary batsman Saeed Anwar's 28-year-old record by scoring his second century in a one-day international (ODI) tournament final on Saturday (November 1).
Fakhar achieved the milestone during the tri-series final against Sri Lanka at Gaddafi Stadium, smashing 127 off 99 balls featuring 11 boundaries and six sixes while chasing a target of 326 runs.
The 36-year-old opener reached his 12th ODI century in just 84 balls before eventually falling to left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka in the 34th over of the innings.
This marked Fakhar's second century in an ODI final, following his memorable maiden final ton against arch-rivals India in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final at The Oval in London.
With this feat, he matched Saeed Anwar's national record of scoring two centuries in ODI tournament finals, which Anwar set during the 11-party tournament finals in 1993 and the 1998 Silver Jubilee Independence Cup.
During his 127-run knock, Fakhar also surpassed the 4,000-run milestone in ODI cricket, becoming the 16th Pakistani batsman to join an elite group that includes Inzamam-ul-Haq, Javed Miandad, Younis Khan, and Saeed Anwar.
Fakhar currently holds 4,019 runs across 96 ODI innings at an average of 44.65 and a strike rate of 93.57, boasting 12 centuries and 19 half-centuries in his international career.
