Chief Whip seeks opposition’s cooperation in implementing the July Charter

The government wants to implement the July Charter through constitutional amendments. Chief Whip of the National Parliament, Nurul Islam Moni, has sought the cooperation of the opposition parties in this initiative.

On Thursday (August 27) at noon, a meeting of government lawmakers was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman. Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, the Chief Whip made the appeal.

Nurul Islam Moni said that before the implementation of the July Charter, there would be no opportunity for any opposition member to become the chair of a parliamentary standing committee. He noted that such an arrangement had never occurred in the past either.

The Chief Whip said that during the third session of Parliament, bills concerning the transfer of property, enforced disappearances, and human rights would be introduced on Thursday.

He also said that the meeting discussed government lawmakers visiting their respective constituencies to inspect development activities carried out by the government on the occasion of the BNP’s founding anniversary on September 1.

He said that cooperation from the opposition parties and all other relevant stakeholders is necessary for the constitutional amendments required to implement the July Charter.
