Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman stated that joining the "Makkah Pact" is entirely Bangladesh’s internal affair, adding that no outside entity should feel unsettled if the country acts in its own national interest.

He made these remarks in a post from his verified Facebook page on Thursday.

"If Bangladesh takes any decision in the interest and need of the country and the nation, there is no need for anyone else to suffer from shortness of breath," Shafiqur wrote.

His comments follow statements made on Monday by State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 Humayun Kabir. Speaking to reporters at the Foreign Ministry, the state minister disclosed that Bangladesh has expressed a positive attitude and interest regarding the "Makkah Joint Defence Pact" signed between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan.

However, he clarified that no formal progress or final decision has been reached yet.

Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan officially signed the tripartite "Makkah Joint Defence Pact" on August 7 during a summit in Makkah to enhance defense cooperation among the member nations.
