The third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad began at 3:00 PM on Thursday with Speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed presiding over the sitting.
Political analysts expect the session to be significant as lawmakers are likely to discuss various critical political and national issues.
Parliament Secretariat officials noted that this session will be brief. The Business Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet at 2:00 PM tomorrow to finalize the duration and agenda of the session.
The session was summoned on August 11 to fulfill a constitutional requirement mandating that the gap between two parliamentary sessions must not exceed 60 days.
With the second session concluding on July 15, the new session was constitutionally required to start by September 11. However, proceedings were convened slightly ahead of schedule to accommodate Leader of the House and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming departure for the United Nations General Assembly in the third week of September.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to leave for the United States on September 21 following the conclusion of the session.
