One name India won’t forget: Sonal Dinusha

India were denied a series-clinching victory by Sonal Dinusha’s unbeaten century as Sri Lanka fought back brilliantly to secure a draw in the second Test in Colombo on Thursday.
India had appeared firmly in control, needing just four wickets on the final day to complete a 2-0 series sweep. However, despite bowling 81.2 overs, Shubman Gill’s side could not break Sri Lanka’s resistance as Dinusha remained unbeaten on 133.
India had declared their first innings at 503 for nine before dismissing Sri Lanka for 290. Following the follow-on, the hosts resumed the final day on 229 for six, holding an overall lead of just 16 runs. Dinusha, unbeaten on seven overnight, took charge of the innings and produced a composed counterattack.
The left-hander received crucial support from Keshara Nuanthan, who helped him put on 112 runs for the seventh wicket. Their partnership lasted 40.2 overs, with Nuanthan contributing 46 before his dismissal. Lahiru Kumara then joined Dinusha and frustrated India for another 28 overs, facing 90 deliveries himself.
Dinusha completed his second consecutive Test century and his third hundred of the series. Even after Lahiru was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja, he continued the resistance alongside Asitha Fernando, who survived 24 balls without scoring.
With Sri Lanka’s lead reaching 216 runs and their defeat effectively ruled out, the hosts declared their innings at 429 for nine. India accepted the draw, with the match ending 17 overs before the scheduled close.
Indian players congratulated Dinusha after the match, while Sri Lanka coach Gary Kirsten also came onto the field to embrace the 25-year-old batter.
India, who had won the first Test in Galle, therefore finished the two-match series with a 1-0 victory, while Sri Lanka secured a memorable draw thanks largely to Dinusha’s unbeaten 133.
