5 more die of measles

Five more people with measles symptoms have died in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours οΏ½" three in the Dhaka Division and two in the Sylhet Division.

Another 75 fresh cases of the disease have been confirmed over the 24 hours from 8am on Wednesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the official count, the total number of symptomatic deaths since Mar 15 has hit 856.

In addition, 99 people who had laboratory-confirmed measles have died over the period.

Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of deaths among people with measles symptoms, with 383 fatalities so far.

Sylhet follows with 145 deaths, while Rajshahi has reported 92, Mymensingh 74, Chattogram 64, Barishal 51, Khulna 33 and Rangpur 14.

The DGHS said 956 people with symptoms sought treatment at hospitals across the country in the latest 24-hour period, with 864 of them admitted.οΏ½"bdnews24
