A fire at an old power substation in Brahmanbaria early Saturday disrupted electricity supply to several areas, officials said.
The fire broke out at around 5:30 AM at the old power substation in the Datiyara area of the district town. No casualties were reported.
Md Nasir Uddin, assistant engineer of the Brahmanbaria Electricity Distribution Division, said an auxiliary transformer at the substation suddenly caught fire.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control, but the transformer was damaged, disrupting electricity supply to some areas.
Efforts are underway to repair the transformer and restore power as soon as possible, he said.
Senior Station Officer Md Nazmul Alam of Brahmanbaria Fire Service and Civil Defence said firefighters took around 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately determined.
