A primary school headteacher from Bogura was killed after falling from a rickshaw during a mugging near the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Mosammat Ranjina Parvin, headteacher of Bagbari Girls Government Primary School in Bogura.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 AM on Saturday, police said.

Ranjina had travelled to Dhaka from Bogura to visit Islamiya Eye Hospital in Farmgate. After getting off at Gabtoli Bus Terminal early in the morning, she was travelling to the hospital by rickshaw.

As the rickshaw reached the South Plaza of the Parliament, muggers on a motorcycle allegedly grabbed her bag from behind. She fell from the rickshaw and suffered a severe head injury.

She was taken to Suhrawardy Hospital, where the duty doctor declared her dead.

Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Ibne Mizan said police were working to identify the motorcycle and those involved.

“We hope to identify and arrest them very soon,” he said.
