Aman paddy to be cultivated on 77,000 ha land in Natore 

NATORE, Aug 29: Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) here has fixed a target to cultivate Aman paddy on 77,010 hectares of land in the district this time.

Systematically, the farmers are working in the field restlessly. On the other hand, the agriculture department is co-operating them in various way to achieve the target. 

It was known from the official sources that in the meantime, cultivation was finished on 45,861 hectares land against the target. Among the paddy varieties, Ufshi paddy was cultivated on 43,783 hectares of land, high breed on 1,902 hectares of land and local type on 176 hectares of land. 

Md Toufiquzzaman, a farmer of Koigram Village of greater Chalan Beel area said, “I’ve planted aromatic varieties of B-34 and BRRI-49 paddies in my land as its production cost is less but market price is high.”  

Another farmer Zulfiqar Anam of Chalan Beel area said that when the beel water will recede, he will cultivate the paddy. 

Singra Upazila Agriculture Officer Khandaker Farid Hasan said that 23,000 hectares of land was targeted for Aman paddy cultivation in the upazila this time. In the meantime, cultivation was completed on 12,000 hectares of land. Water of the beel is receding rapidly.

Many farmers will cultivate Aman paddy after cutting the Aush paddy. The cultivation will continue up to the first half of October.
 
Deputy Director of the DAE in Natore Md Habibul Islam Khan informed that government is giving seeds and fertilisers to encourage farmers in cultivation. His office is monitoring the situation all time. He hoped that the yield will be good.
