Head teacher killed in Parliament-area snatching mourned in Bogura

A head teacher from Bogura has died after falling from a rickshaw when alleged snatchers grabbed her bag in Dhaka while she was travelling to an eye hospital for treatment.
Ranjina Parvin, 55, was the head teacher of Bagbari Girls' Government Primary School in Gabtali upazila of Bogura.
She left Bogura by bus on Friday night to consult a doctor at Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital in Farmgate, her family said.
After arriving in Dhaka at around 6:30 AM on Saturday, she was travelling to the hospital by rickshaw when alleged snatchers on a motorcycle grabbed her bag near the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
She lost her balance and fell onto the road, suffering serious head injuries. She was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Ranjina, who had served in the teaching profession for nearly 35 years, was due to retire in about a year.
Her brother, Zahidul Islam, said she joined the teaching profession in 1991 and had carried out her duties with dedication and integrity throughout her career.
Her family brought her body back to Bogura, where she was buried at the family graveyard in Darail village of Gabtali upazila after funeral prayers.
Ranjina lived in Bogura town with her husband, businessman Matiur Rahman Matin, and their only daughter.
Her colleague Rizbona Akhtar described her as a dedicated teacher and said her sudden death had left colleagues deeply shocked.
Gabtali Upazila Education Officer Kamrul Hasan said Ranjina had travelled to Dhaka after taking leave to seek treatment for an eye problem.
He said she had served with dedication and sincerity throughout her career and was well regarded by her colleagues and students.
