Towhid Hridoy hits double century against South Africa 'A'

Having failed to make an impact in his lone Test appearance against Zimbabwe and subsequently remaining out of Test consideration - including missing the two-Test series against Australia - Towhid Hridoy has proven his capabilities in long-form cricket with a brilliant double century against South Africa 'A' in a four-day unofficial Test match.

The middle-order batter, who recently led Mohammedan to a domestic one-day title, struck an undefeated double ton to lead a strong recovery for his side.

In response to South Africa 'A's formidable first-innings total of 512, Bangladesh 'A' were struggling at 135 for four on the second day in Potchefstroom. Captain Towhid Hridoy then mounted a firm resistance alongside Jaker Ali Anik for the fifth wicket.

Bangladesh 'A' finished the second day on Monday at 201 for four, with Hridoy on 75 and Jaker on 47.

Resuming play on Tuesday (September 1) for the third day, Bangladesh 'A' pushed their total significantly closer to the hosts' tally. While Jaker narrowly missed out on a century after being dismissed for 94 off 168 balls, including 11 boundaries and three sixes, Hridoy teamed up with Mohammad Saifuddin to build another massive partnership.

Following the 151-run fifth-wicket stand between Hridoy and Jaker, Hridoy and Saifuddin added 185 runs for the sixth wicket, bringing Bangladesh 'A' within striking distance of the South African total. Saifuddin scored 87 off 171 balls with 10 boundaries and a six before being dismissed.

During the effort, Hridoy completed his double century and remained unbeaten on 204 off 339 balls, featuring 22 boundaries and a six, as play ended on the third day.

Bangladesh 'A' will enter the fourth and final day on Wednesday trailing by 41 runs, with Captain Hridoy at the crease.
