A Dhaka court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate allegations of extortion, assault, torture and attempted murder against 14 officials and employees of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation.
July movement activist Gias Uddin filed the complaint with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam’s court on Tuesday. After recording his statement, the court directed the CID to investigate the allegations, said lawyer Yamin Mia.
The accused include the foundation’s senior verification officer Iftekhar Hossain and officials Sabrina Afroze Sebanti, Saidur Rahman Shahid, Mehedi Hasan Prince, Sagar, Afzalur Rahman Sayem, Harun-or-Rashid, Kamrul Hossain, Alif, Zahid, Momenuzzaman Dipu, Sazzad Mostafa, Fatema Afrin Payel and Yasin Molla.
According to the complaint, Gias Uddin went to collect a Tk 3 lakh government assistance cheque as an injured participant in the July movement. He alleged that the accused demanded Tk 1.5 lakh or half of the cheque amount, in exchange for handing over the cheque.
