TEHRAN, Sep 1: President Vladimir Putin told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at a meeting that Russia stands in solidarity with the Iranian people in the fight against the US and Israel.
Putin also said Russia and Iran will maintain their economic and trade relationship despite the current military and political environment.
The United States and threatened a new sanctions regime against any countries cooperating economically with Iran, including its close allies Russia and China.
Putin made the comments at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek on Tuesday.
“During the meeting, the latest state of bilateral relations between Iran and Russia was reviewed and the two sides discussed ways to strengthen and expand cooperation in various fields,” said the presidency in a statement accompanied by images of Putin and Pezeshkian shaking hands.
“I state explicitly that if the United States returns to its commitments under the aforementioned memorandum of understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately take reciprocal action,” Pezeshkian said at the SCO summit, as reported on the website of the Iranian presidency.�"AL JAZEERA
