BNP Standing Committee member and Political Advisor to the Prime Minister Mirza Abbas is returning home on Wednesday (September 2).
He spent five and a half months in Singapore and Malaysia for medical treatment and rehabilitation. His flight is scheduled to land in Dhaka on Wednesday night.
BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter. He said a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Mirza Abbas is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 9:00 PM.
His wife Afroza Abbas said the decision to return was taken after receiving clearance from the medical board. All preparations for his return have been completed.
Family members and party leaders said his physical condition has improved significantly. However, his medical treatment and rehabilitation process will continue at home. Arrangements have been made for his daily physiotherapy.
Mirza Abbas fell ill and lost consciousness during Iftar at his Shahjahanpur residence in Dhaka on March 11. He was immediately taken to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Later, he was flown to Singapore on March 15 for advanced treatment. He was subsequently shifted to Malaysia for specialized care and rehabilitation.
Mirza Abbas is currently the Member of Parliament for the Dhaka-8 constituency. Apart from being a BNP Standing Committee member, he serves as the Political Advisor to the Prime Minister. He remained away from political activities for a long time due to his extended treatment. His return creates an opportunity for him to rejoin active politics.
Party leaders and activists expressed relief over his recovery and return to the country.
