Kuwait air defenses engage Iranian missiles

Iran launched missile and drone strikes targeting Kuwait, prompting the Kuwaiti military to activate its air defense systems on Thursday (September 3).
The General Staff of the Kuwait Armed Forces confirmed the engagement in a statement posted on social media platform X.
"Kuwaiti Air Defense forces are currently intercepting incoming hostile missile and drone threats," the statement read.
Kuwaiti military authorities clarified that explosions heard across various regions resulted from air defense systems intercepting and destroying hostile aerial targets.
Officials urged citizens to follow safety guidelines issued by civil defense authorities.
Kuwaiti authorities did not immediately release details regarding casualties or structural damage.
Iran's state news agency IRIB claimed that US military installations in Kuwait were the primary targets.
IRIB reported a strike on at least one US military facility, claiming plumes of smoke were visible rising over the base.
The Iranian government has not issued an official diplomatic statement regarding the operation.
Tehran asserted that its military operations in Kuwait target US forces rather than civilian populations.
Iranian authorities demanded the immediate withdrawal of American troops stationed in Kuwait.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated on Wednesday that it targeted the command headquarters and living quarters of senior US commanders at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
Direct military confrontations between Iran, the United States, and Israel have triggered a sharp escalation in tensions across the Gulf region following the collapse of a month-long ceasefire.
The latest wave of strikes follows a US attack on Larak Island, which prompted Iranian retaliatory strikes across multiple Gulf nations.
Amid the expanding conflict, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia have also faced Iranian missile and drone attacks.
