Dengue claims four more lives

Four more people have died after being infected with dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. This brings the total number of dengue-related deaths in Bangladesh this year to 111.

In addition, 1,252 new patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country. The number of patients currently receiving treatment stands at 2,954.

The information was disclosed in the regular dengue-related press release issued by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday (September 3).

According to the DGHS, two of the four deceased were men and two were women. One of them was a child, while the others were adults.

An analysis of the total deaths shows that 61 of the 111 deceased, or 55%, were women, while 50, or 45%, were men.

In Dhaka Division, 37 people died at hospitals under the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), 16 at hospitals under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and three outside the city corporations. In addition, 19 deaths were reported in Khulna, 12 in Mymensingh, 10 in Barishal, eight in Chattogram, four in Rajshahi, and one each in Rangpur and Sylhet.

So far, a total of 39,532 people have been admitted to hospitals with dengue. Of them, 36,467 have been discharged.
