Madrid defender acquitted in sex video case

The 23-year-old footballer was exonerated of all charges stemming from an incident in June 2023 at a Gran Canaria beach club, where intimate footage was allegedly recorded and shared without consent.

While Asensio was cleared, three of his former Real Madrid academy teammates were found guilty. The court handed them one-year suspended prison sentences, ordered them to attend sexual behavior rehabilitation courses, and issued two-year restraining orders from the victims.

"After a long judicial process, the truth has finally been established," Asensio stated following his acquittal. He acknowledged facing a difficult period due to intense media scrutiny during the trial, expressing relief that the legal ordeal has concluded.

In a separate matter, Asensio was fined and received an eight-month driving suspension for driving under the influence.

Real Madrid imposed internal disciplinary measures against the defender following the incident. Head Coach Jose Mourinho expressed dissatisfaction over the drunk-driving infraction, confirming the club addressed the matter internally.
