Two jailed for attempt to snatch van in Rajshahi

A mobile court in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi sentenced two men to prison on Saturday (September 5) for attempting to snatch a battery-powered van after drugging the driver.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 AM at Rustampur Market in Arani under Bagha upazila.

Police said Milan Hossain and Torikul Islam hired a van driven by Hamidul Rahman to go to Charghat. En route to Rustampur Market, the passengers tricked the driver into consuming a sedative substance. Shortly after, the driver felt dizzy and realized what was happening.

As the vehicle reached Rustampur Market, the driver alerted local residents, who caught the two suspects and handed them over to the police.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Toki Faysal Talukdar subsequently conducted a mobile court at the scene, sentencing Milan Hossain to one year in prison with a fine of Tk 400, and Torikul Islam to six months in prison with a fine of Tk 200.

UNO Toki Faysal Talukdar confirmed the mobile court's verdict and sentence.
