Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the only identity of all citizens is being Bangladeshi, regardless of religious differences, stressing national unity and equal recognition for people of all faiths.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (October 20) after visiting a Durga Puja mandap at J.M. Sen Hall in Chattogram and exchanging views with members of the Hindu community.
Tarique Rahman said people of all religions had fought together during the Liberation War and joined movements to protect democracy and establish citizens’ rights.
Referring to the July-August mass uprising of 2024, he said people had helped the injured without considering their religious identities. Doctors had also provided treatment without distinguishing between faiths, he added.
The prime minister stressed that the country's struggles for independence, democracy and fundamental rights had united people beyond religious differences.
