E-parliament system planned for paperless parliament

An e-parliament system is being planned to make the Jatiya Sangsad paperless, modern and technology-driven.

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed gave the direction during a courtesy meeting with Deputy Speaker and chairman of the Library Committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kaisar Kamal MP and committee members Nayab Yusuf Ahmed and ABM Mosharraf Hossain at the parliament on Sunday.

During the meeting, the participants stressed the need to introduce the system to make parliamentary activities more efficient, modern and technology-based.

The proposed system will have both Bangla and English versions. It will facilitate the management, storage and exchange of parliamentary documents, making the process faster and more efficient.

The speaker directed that a committee, headed by the deputy speaker, be formed to oversee the implementation of the e-parliament system. The committee will review the proposed system's structure, implementation process, required technological infrastructure and other related matters before taking necessary steps.

The speaker also directed that a presentation on the proposed system be made by the end of September. The presentation will outline its operational process, technological capabilities, implementation plan and other key aspects.

Once introduced, the system will allow various parliamentary activities and documents to be handled digitally, reducing paper use while saving time and administrative costs. It is also expected to improve the speed, efficiency and coordination of parliamentary activities.

It was also decided to contact the UNDP, donor countries and donor agencies to secure technical and other assistance for implementing the project. Their support may be sought at a later stage as required.

Officials concerned from the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat were present at the meeting.
