Tangail champion by 5-1 goals, Rangamati runners-up

The girls of Tangail district have won the Inter-Divisional Under-16 Girls Football Competition while the girls of Rangamati district have become the runners-up.

In the final match held on Sunday afternoon, the Tangail team scored 5 goals in the first half of the match and Rangamati scored the only goal in the second half.

Organised by the Bangladesh Mohila Krira Songstha, the three-day tournament was held at the Shaheed Ria Gop Sports Complex in Dhanmondi from Friday to Sunday. About 300 girls from 8 divisions across the country participated in the game for 16 teams from 16 districts. The districts participated in the tournament are; Tangail, Kishoreganj and Narayanganj from Dhaka Division, Rangamati, Khagrachari and Chattogram from Chattogram Division, Mymensingh and Netrokona from Mymensingh Division, Satkhira and Khulna from Khulna Division, Joypurhat and Rajshahi from Rajshahi Division, Moulvibazar and Sylhet from Sylhet Division, Pirojpur from Barisal Division and Rangpur District from Rangpur Division.

In the concluding function, State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque and Bangladesh Mohila Krira Songsttha president Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla handed over prizes among the winning and runner-up teams. Officials of various sports federations and organisations were present at the time.

During the award distribution programme, the Chief Guest of the event, State Minister for Sports, said, "There are many talented players scattered all over our country. They should come forward and we should also find them and bring them out."

Expressing his determination to take female players to the international arena, the State Minister for Sports said that girls are doing much better than boys in terms of sports success.

Bangladesh Mohila Krira Songsttha president Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla said that this inter-divisional U-16 girls' football competition was organized in the continuation of the Prime Minister's Cup and Notun Kudi competetions.

She thanked the girls who participated in this competition and also expressed gratitude to their parents and guardians for sending their girls to play.

Besides, as a child of Tangail, Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla personally rewarded Tk 50,000 as a gift to the winning team of Tangail girls.
