Burkina Faso are expected to arrive in Argentina just six hours before their scheduled friendly against Argentina after their charter flight was cancelled without prior notice.
The Burkina Faso Football Federation said the national team had been scheduled to leave for Argentina on September 30. However, the cancellation forced the delegation to remain in Casablanca, Morocco, and rearrange its travel plans.
The team eventually departed Casablanca early Saturday and was expected to arrive at Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires at around 3:30 PM local time.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 PM local time at the Monumental Stadium, leaving the visitors little time to complete formalities at the airport and travel to the venue.
According to the federation, the sports ministry, the federation and Burkina Faso’s embassy in Morocco worked to find an alternative arrangement after the cancellation. Several options were explored, but concerns over travel time caused reluctance among some players.
Burkina Faso’s Minister of Sports, Youth and Employment Annick Pikbougoum Zingué Ouattara, federation president Oumarou Sawadogo and Ambassador Mamadou Coulibaly were personally involved in efforts to arrange the team’s travel to Buenos Aires.
The federation said the charter company cancelled the September 30 flight without prior notice, disrupting the national team’s travel plans.
It also thanked supporters, partners and others involved in Burkinabe football for their patience and support during the disruption.
