State Minister for Foreign Affairs-2 Shama Obaed Islam said on Tuesday (September 8) that the government remains in continuous contact with India to extradite ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Speaking as the chief guest at a local law and order meeting in the Madaripur Deputy Commissioner's conference room, she stated that appropriate legal procedures will follow under domestic law once Hasina is returned.

Shama noted that Bangladesh is actively communicating with the Indian government regarding the matter under the existing extradition treaty. She added that individuals staying abroad who face charges or convictions will be dealt with in accordance with established legal channels.

Addressing queries on the "Makkah Pact," the State Minister clarified that Bangladesh has not yet made a decision regarding participation in the temporary defense alliance.

She emphasized that Bangladesh will prioritize its own foreign policy, national interests, and potential benefits for its citizens before joining any future international forum or alliance.

Chaired by Madaripur Deputy Commissioner Morjina Akter, the meeting was attended by Helen Zerin Khan MP, Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokhan MP, Jahandar Ali Jahan MP, Sayed Uddin Ahammad Hanjala MP, and various local administration officials. Participants discussed overall law and order and outlined necessary steps for further improvement.
