The government has banned the use of honorifics such as 'His Excellency' and 'Honourable' before the titles of the president and prime minister in official correspondence, documents and summaries.

The Cabinet Division issued a circular to this effect on Wednesday.

According to the circular, the government has decided that the honorific terms 'His Excellency' and 'Honourable', or any other similar title, will no longer be used before the official designations of the president, prime minister, ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers in state affairs and official documents.

The directive takes effect immediately.
