Lightning strike sets energy minister Tuku’s house ablaze

A fire caused by a lightning strike broke out at the Sirajganj residence of Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, the Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. The fire started at the gas riser located at the gate of the house situated on Al Mahmud Avenue in the Hossainpur neighborhood of Sirajganj town around 1:15 PM on Wednesday (September 9).
Upon receiving the report, Fire Service personnel arrived at the scene and put the fire down. Thankfully, there was no significant damage.

Locals reported that the roaring flames were seen in front of Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku's house after a lightning struck, when it was raining at the time. The Fire Service was subsequently notified and arrived to bring the fire under control.

Md. Shariful Islam, Station Officer of the Sirajganj Fire Service, said, "We brought the fire under control after arriving at the scene following reports of a fire at the Power Minister's residence. The gatekeeper stated that the fire came from the gas riser after it was struck by lightning."
