BB, Mercantile Bank sign CMSME refinance agreement

Bangladesh Bank and Mercantile Bank PLC have officially signed a participation agreement under the Tk. 5,000cr CMSME Working Capital Refinance Fund.

This collaboration aims to disburse loans to the CMSME sector at low interest rates and flexible terms.

The agreement signing ceremony was held on September 08, at the A. N. Hamidullah Conference Room in the head office of Bangladesh Bank.

Md. Zabdul Islam, Director of the SME & Special Programs Department of Bangladesh Bank and Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain, Deputy Managing Director & CBO of Mercantile Bank, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Md. Anis Ur Rahman, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, graced the occasion as the chief guest.

Nahid Rahman, Executive Director, and Shahanaj Pervin, Additional Director of Bangladesh Bank, along with Mohammad Nizamul Hoque, Head of SME Financing of Mercantile Bank, were also present at the ceremony.

The fund was formed under the BDT 60,000 crore stimulus package declared by Bangladesh Bank to provide working capital, boost production capacity, and generate employment. Under this fund, active CMSME enterprises will receive financing facilities at an interest rate of only 9 per cent.
